Greenwich Town Government

The Greenwich Town Government is elected every two years (in "off-years", i.e. odd years) in November.  Each political party endorses 2 candidates and the one with the most votes becomes the First Selectman and the 2nd and 3rd highest vote-getters join the 3-person Board of Selectmen. The First Selectman is the chief executive of the Town, much like a mayor, responsible for supervision and control over town departments such as police, fire, and public works and for directing resource allocation and capital investments in the town budget proposal. The Board of Selectmen nominate individuals for town boards, committees and commissions such as planning & zoning and school building committees.
