
The Connecticut State Department of Education just issued guidance pertaining to immigration activities.
The guidance states that students have a right to attend public schools, regardless of immigration status. Furthermore, Connecticut public schools have no obligation to collect or maintain the immigration status of students or their family members.
Between the Lines - But wait, don't lawful citizens have to prove their child lives in Greenwich (e.g. utility bill) and provide proof of age (e.g. birth certificate) to attend our public schools? If so, there should be no worries about identifying illegal immigrants in our schools. Move along, nothing to see here.
