Cos Cob man arrested for hit and run near West Main ShopRite

The Stamford Police Department on Wednesday announced they have arrested a Cos Cob man in connection with a hit-and-run near the ShopRite at West Main and Alford Lane, at 6:13 am on Nov 21, 2023 that killed 74-year-old Stamford woman who was walking to work.
Salvatore Longo, 58, of Cos Cob, surrendered to police on Wednesday on a warrant that charged him with misconduct with a motor vehicle and felony evading responsibility. The warrant came with a court-set bond of $750,000.
Police said Marie Jean-Charles, a ShopRite employee who was crossing West Main Street from north to south when she was hit in the eastbound travel lane by a car believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed. Jean-Charles was pronounced dead at the scene. The car, which sustained heavy damage, did not stop and continued eastbound on West Main Street, police said.
