Could the sale of Aquarion result in 23% higher water rates and a smaller grand list?

In a public hearing last Thursday, First Selectman Fred Camillo of Greenwich, raised concerns about the impact on residents of the sale of Aquarion Water Company (the water company serving Greenwich) to the South Central Regional Water Authority. His concerns were as follows:

1.Higher prices for water for Greenwich customers. Customers of South Central Regional Water Authority pay prices that are 23% higher than Aquarion customers.

2.Loss of Greenwich property tax revenue. The water company property located in Greenwich would no longer provide taxable revenue to Greenwich as a result of the sale to South Central CT Regional Water Authority.

Between the lines: How much higher can our electric and water utility rates go before all our residents flee to other states.
