Crash following crash: Greenwich firefighters injured after unregistered truck plowed into them

Early Thursday morning, June 27, emergency responders were called to a rollover crash involving a tractor-trailer towing double trailers on I-95 near exit 4.  The truck driver was hospitalized and suffered minor injuries.

An hour and a half later, while waiting on the breakdown lanes for diesel fuel to be cleaned up, Greenwich fire engine 1 was hit by an unregistered and uninsured car carrier truck with enough force to push the 40,000 pound engine over 100 feet up the highway.  The truck driver and three Greenwich firefighters were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Between the lines – Slow down and be cautious around flashing lights that warn of crashes ahead and don't forget to thank emergency workers.
