CT Attorney General cracks down on sales practices by solar companies

CT Attorney General Tong announced a law suit against solar panel installer and leasor SunRun and several marketing subcontractors Dakota Grumet of Elevate Solar and Sierra Howes of Bright Planet for unlawful sales practices. They locked homeowners into long-term (25 year, hard to terminate) solar lease contracts without full informed consent (e.g. that lease payments would increase 2.9% annually) and failed to deliver timely working systems.

This is Attorney General Tong's third enforcement action against bad-faith actors in the solar market. Prior actions were taken against Solar Wolf Energy and Vision Solar, both have subsequently filed for bankruptcy.

Between the lines: Kudos to our Attorney General for shedding sunlight on these bad actors. Best to avoid such leases if you can, instead pay cash or take out your own HELOC.
