CT Olympians include Walsh sisters of Old Greenwich


Alex and Gretchen Walsh swim for the University of Virginia, where the pair has led the program to three consecutive National Championships. Alex and Gretchen became the first collegiate athletes to launch a swim wear collection. Look for them in the pool this week.


Alex Walsh. Older sister Alex won the silver medal in the 200 individual medley at the Tokyo Olympics. She went onto win three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships; and won a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. She qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by finishing seond in the 200 meter individual medley.


Gretchen Walsh. Younger sister Gretchen qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by breaking the world record in the 100-meter butterfly in the semifinals then winning the event in 55.31 seconds, just 0.13 seconds off her record pace. She also qualified for the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter frestyle relay team.


Between the (lane) lines: Their mother, Glynis, was the swim team captain at Greenwich High School and her two daughters attended Old Greenwich School for elementary. The two are still members of Rocky Point Club in Old Greenwich.
