First Selectman wants statue honoring George H.W. Bush on Greenwich Avenue.

Updated: Jun 18

Former 41st president George H.W. Bush grew up in Greenwich and First Selectman Fred Camillo said that he wants to put a statue honoring him on Greenwich Avenue.

Bush grew up in Greenwich, the second oldest of five siblings in a 1903 Victorian with a wraparound porch at 15 Grove Lane. He attended Greenwich Country Day School and Yale University. His father, Prescott Bush, was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut and served as moderator of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) in Greenwich for 17 years.

Bush was a war hero, Camillo said, and there were no statues of him anywhere in town. "(This) is a project that's long overdue," he said during the Board of Selectmen meeting. While there was no detailed discussion of the statue plan; Camillo mentioned his thoughts during a conversation about the Americans with Disabilities Act, a federal law that Bush signed in 1990.
