The Greenwich legislature (RTM Representative Town Committee) rejected the proposal to build a new ice rink next to the existing Dorothy Hamill in Byram (the "flip"). The First Selectman has wasted little time in addressing RTM concerns and is moving the project forward. See his letter here.
A new Hamill Rink Task Force will be formed consisting of nine members that will touch on every single stakeholder (e.g. Byram Neighborhood Association), replacing the previous rink user committee.
The new task force will be charged with comparing the original "flip" proposal to rebuilding Dorothy Hamill at its existing location or relocating the rink to another location, likely to be the Island Beach parking lot off Exit 3 in downtown Greenwich. Issues about the Island Beach location include an estimated $10 million in extra cost to accommodate this flood zone, added rink parking, and replacement of existing public parking spaces.
Between the lines: Kudos to the First Selectman Camillo for keeping the fire burning on this sorely needed recreational facility.
