On Tuesday, January 21, at their monthly meeting, the Greenwich legislative body, the RTM, will vote to approve the proposed new ice rink.
This rink replacement project has been under study for nearly eight years. See here for the background about the new rink.
Based on many letters of support, it appears that the community as a whole is in favor of the new rink. The First Selectman has urged residents to support the rink here.
However, a four-member group of Byram residents have rallied support against the rink's proposed location (next to the old rink but too near a senior housing complex) and have successfully brought this project to the RTM for a vote on halting the process. Indeed, a majority on each of the six RTM committees who have reviewed this project have voted against proceeding, but the votes have not been unanimous as many members of each committee have voted in favor of proceeding. A full vote of the RTM will take place on Tuesday evening.
Between the lines: Now is the time to submit your comments of support (or not) to the RTM here.
