Greenwich sees 17% decline in Kindergarten enrollment

Kindergarten enrollment for Greenwich Public Schools is about 100 children fewer than what district officials expected for the 2024-25 school year, but that will be balanced by a larger than projected class in 2025-26, officials said.

According to the enrollment projections report, the district expected that there will be 612 students enrolled in kindergarten next year. Instead, enrollment so far is about 500.

The shortfall may be due to the new kindergarten age cut off, which will mean that students will need to turn 5 by Sept. 1 in order to enroll into kindergarten. The current cut off allows kids to enter kindergarten if they turn 5 by Jan. 1.
