One of many housing bills coming out of our state legislature in Hartford is a bill that will prohibit a town from imposing any penalty for homeless persons living on public land. Democrat advocates say, we do not want to criminalize someone for simply being homeless.
The bill was discussed by board members of Greenwich Parks & Recreation at their meeting last week. Under this bill, if a homeless person sets up a tent and living quarters in a public place such as Tod's Point, Bruce Park, the Pinetum, or the Griff golf course parking lot, the Town can't remove that person. Greenwich Parks and Recreation director Joe Siciliano said, "We were tracking someone in Byram Park most of last summer who was living in one of the alcoves of the upper building, lighting little fires in the corner of the building to stay warm."
Between the Lines: Where are these reckless ideas coming from? - Oh yes, from the supermajority Democrat party in Hartford.
