Daylight saving time started during World War I to save energy by extending the time of day when the sun set.
Both CT and Federal legislators of both parties have argued against the semi-annual switch to and from daylight savings time. In CT, Rep Kurt Vail, R-Stafford has proposed this annually since 2018 and Rep. Josh Elliott, D-Hamden has done the same. But a single state such as CT can't do this alone, other New England States would need to follow suit.
Enter President Trump who said that the Republican Party will use its best efforts to make this happen, as it is inconvenient and very costly to the nation.
