Preliminary approval was given by Greenwich Planning & Zoning to move forward with a new 40,000 square foot ice rink in Byram replacing the adjoining 53 year old Dorothy Hamill rink.
Final approvals will depend on obtaining construction permits, further vetting by nearby residents and its community friendliness. The price tag is expected to be $23 million.
After the new rink is built, the old one will be torn down and a baseball field will be built in its place.
Between the lines: This week the athletic fields of Western Middle School finally opened up after an eight year closure. Slowly but surely, Greenwich invests in modernizing its recreational infrastructure.
