NYC subways are not safe

Hardly a day goes by without another report of commuters being attached in the NYC subways. Criminals are using box cutters, knives, and pushing commuters onto train tracks. In this morning's news a woman pushed into the tracks in the downtown Fulton Street station had her feet amputated.

Additional cops are being deployed and last week 1,000 National Guard were called in to do bag checks.

In January crime was up 45% and 12% of riders jump the turnstile as Jim Cameron reports in this informative blog. Most of these are repeat criminals, many mentally unstable and most are set free without bail.

What does this mean for Connecticut commuters?  "They’re probably safe on Metro-North but when they get to Grand Central they’re understandably reluctant to take the subway to their office."  Just another reason to work from home.
