Old Greenwich swimmer Gretchen Walsh brings home 4 Olympic medals


She is an expert in butterfly and free style. Gretchen Walsh made a big contribution to the U.S. medal count by winning two gold medals and two silver:


Gold medal in 4x100 women's medley relay

Gold medal in 4x100 mixed medley relay

Silver medal in 100 meter butterfly - an individual medal

Silver medal in 4x100 free relay


Note: The word "mixed" means two men and two women. An event introduced in the Tokyo Olympics. The word "medley" means one of each of the four strokes in this order - backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, free style (crawl).


She attended Old Greenwich School and her family are long time members of Rocky Point swim club in Old Greenwich. Her mom was captain of the Greenwich High School swim team.
