Pants-on-fire Congressman Himes says cuts to Medicaid could force Greenwich nursing facility to shut down

US Congressman Jim Himes (CT-D) said Medicaid cuts "could force the closure" of Greenwich's Nathaniel Witherell at 70 Parsonage Road. It could spell "financial ruin" he said. The nursing facility receives about half of its revenue from Medicaid reimbursements.

Don't be confused by Himes' clever political fearmongering, Nathaniel Witherell has had financial troubles for years. It is the last remaining municipal-run nursing home in Connecticut and it has long been a source of controversy because it is unprofitable and heavily subsidized by Greenwich taxpayers. This maneuver by Himes to serve his own political gains will only make if harder for our local leaders to find a workable solution.

The truth is that President Trump himself has said over and over and over again that he has no plans to cut Medicaid, Medicare or Social Security benefits. He said so in this CBS interview here. Trump did say, however, that he intends to cut waste and fraud including payments to dead people and payments to non-citizens.

Between the Lines - Could Congressman Himes be suggesting that Nathaniel Witherell is engaged in Medicaid fraud or coverage of non-citizens? Hopefully not, but why is no one challenging Himes for misrepresenting Trump's statements?
