The kindergarten age cutoff has changed for public schools leaving a backlog of kids needing to stay in pre-school longer. Connecticut now requires all children enrolling in kindergarten to have turned 5 years old by September 1, eliminating the cutoff of January 1 of the following year.
The Connecticut legislature passed a bill last year giving parents little time to adapt to this shift. There are now long wait lists for preschool this year to fill a temporary need.
