The Stamford Police Department arrested Miguel "Cuba" Rodriguez-Veloz, a resident of Main Street in Stamford, CT for operating a fentanyl/cocaine drug factory in an apartment on the 90 block of Liberty Street (near Stamford Hospital). It is believed to be the largest fentanyl seizure in the city's history.
Rodriguez-Veloz has prior felony convictions related to drug trafficking and sexual assault mostly out of Massachusetts.
Between the lines: Initial bail was set at $250,000 and then lowered to only $100,000 by the bond commissioner. During arraignment, the bond was then boosted to $3 million. Questions remain about why the bond was set so low for such a substantial case.
