Town officials claim emails opposing geothermal repair at Hamilton Avenue School are fake

The geothermal system at Hamilton Avenue School has been a contentious subject since the system broke down in 2023 for lack of experienced maintenance. The Greenwich School Board is now seeking another $5.25 million to refurbish it.

Superintendent of Schools Toni Jones claims to have received a high volume of emails in opposition to further funding the failed geothermal system. She believes the emails were created by fake accounts (Bots or AI) to fabricate support, a tactic known as "astroturfing".

Six Democrat members of the Town's budget board (BET) complained at a meeting last week that they were targeted by such emails, implying that the emails may be coming from Republican operatives.

Between the Lines - While the focus is on astroturfing, has anyone been held accountable for the poor maintenance of the system?
