What to know about the Republican primary ballot - it's simple

The State primary elections are scheduled for August 13, but Connecticut voters will have a full week starting Monday August 5 to Sunday August 11 to vote early in person at the Greenwich Town Hall.

On the ballot will be Republican Michael Goldstein a physician from Greenwich and Bob MacGuffie financial executive from Fairfield. The winner will challenge Democrat Senator Chris Murphy in the November general election.

Also, on the ballot will be Republican Selectman Gerry Smith of Beacon Falls and Matthew Corey Naval officer and businessman from Manchester. The winner will challenge Democrat Congressman Jim Himes in the November general election.

This is a simple ballot with only two votes. It's an important race because the winners will run against 2 strong incumbent Democrat candidates in the Nov 5 general election (in-person early voting begins Oct 21).

Between the lines: This is a good chance to get familiar with early in person voting. It is a safe way to "bank your vote" ahead of time in case a conflict arises on voting day.
